Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 4th XI v HAINAULT & CLAYHALL on Sat 26 May 2007 at 1PM
Match was Abandoned rain midway through the second innings
Match report
Hainault won the toss and elected to bat on an excellent Gallows Corner pitch. As last week, the Park opening attack beat the bat regularly and obtained swing and bounce. However, two missed chances in the first four overs proved costly as the weather grew colder, the ball stopped swinging and the openers added 81 in increasing time before a breakthrough could be made. Tghe introduction of Dave cobill's spin saw Iqbal drill the ball to long off where Graham Radwood clung on to a well judged catch, and 20 runs later the other opener, O'Kelly, was bowled after being pinned down by the persistent Cobill. Wickets fell at regularly intervals from this point and further catches were held at slip (by Jerry Trayler) and extra cover (by Amar Zahid) as as the score reached 171 fo 6 with 8 overs left. Don Triggs chanced his arm for a rapid 32 before being stumped and the innings closed for 224 for 7, all 7 for 47 to Cobill from 18 excellent overs with 6 maidens.
in increasingly gloomy light the Park reply had to cope with erratic bowling from the Hainault openers, and when Jerry Trayler was eventually able to reach a ball he was superbly caught at point! However, Ron Montgomery (playing only his third innings in two seasons having missed all 2006 through injury)and Brijesh Patel assumed control and added 120 to put Park in the driving sea. Unfortunately the weather closed in just prior the last hour starting and the already poor light was coupled with increasingly heavy rain. Montgomery was out miscuing a high full toss having scored a well paced 65 with 9 fours and 2 sixes, and shortly before the game was abandoned Patel went for 41. The odds were on a home win if the conditions had remained acceptable but both sides were happy to settle in the end for the shared points and a hot shower given the dire weather!
