Match report
The final friendly match of the season was played out on a fine and sunny autumn day and on a very good pitch at Gallows Corner. After a late start because of traffic delays for the opposition, surprisingly for a friendly match and given the quality of the pitch Sawbridgeworth decided to field on winning the toss against a Park team consisting of 4th and 5th team players and colts. Perhaps they knew something we didn't! Suki Jutla and Simon Trowse made a good start before Suki was out driving, and Baljit Jutla came in to play some excellent shots as his season closed with his batting in good order. The score progressed at a leisurely pace before Simon was out for a very sound 25 and another good contribution, followed by Baljit caught in the covers chasing a wide one. Abdul Zadwala proceeded to make a fluent 30, Sam Davies hit some nice shots before being run out off an ambitious single, and Durham smahed a quick fire 33 to allow a generous declaration at the half way mark on 172 for 5 from 47 overs.
Sawbridgeworth approached their task with a likely maximum 43 overs to bat and were cautious at first as Suki and Simon put in accurate spells with the new ball. Thereafter the pace picked up and the batsmen were untroubled on this really excellent batting pitch, but were never really dominant as skipper Andy Jenner brought all his bowlers into the game. Kirkpatrick chanced his arm more in the last 20 overs and some boundaries flowed towards the end as the target was reached with 6 overs to spare, Kirkpatrick finishing on 97 not out and Marshall on 63 not out. Everyone on the Park side was involved in the game and it was a nice match to finish the season with. A pity the weather in the rest of the season had not matched today's!!
