Roding Valley v Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Under 16's on Sun 30 Jun 2002 at 2pm
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won 6 wickets
Match report
Captain Phil Goldstone lost the toss but from that point forward made the game his own!!! Roding Valley elected to bat and made a reasonable start against tidy bowling from Park's opening bowlers Jason Toogood and Micheal Moonie. Howerver Jason hit Roding Valley hard with two wickets in 8 balls and they never really recovered. Ryan Sammons and Chris Collier (making his debut as a Matchplay bowler) bowled really tight but things really changed when the captain brought himself on to bowl. His first over was a maiden but for some reason Phil wasn't happy with this and so he switched from is usuual left arm wrist spin to medium pace and blitzed the Roding Valley middle and lower order by taking 5 wickets for 8 runs in 7 overs!!!. Roding Valley were all out for 107.
Park's reply was very professional. The wickets of Collier and Hiscock went cheaply to balls that pitched halfway down and then trapped them infront LBW!!. All the other lads Chris Swainland(18), Andrew D'cruz(14) and ryan Sammons (10no) all batted around .. yes you've guessed it skipper Phil Goldstone who made an accomplished 40no which led his side to victory with 13 overs still left. Well done Park and Well done Phil
