Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Under 16's v Copford on Mon 03 Jun 2002 at 2pm
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won 76 runs
Match report
Captain Phil Goldstone won the toss and decided to bat first and set a total. Slow but steady progress was made against a Copford attack that started with some good accurate bowling. Opener Chris Collier was first to go and would have been disapointed to be out for 10 as he had made a good start. Wicket keeper Chris Swainland made a quick 20 which included a massive straight 6. Next to go was opener Andy D'cruz who scored 15 but helped the score get up to 73. Phil Goldstone and Matt Hiscock chipped in but both got out just as they were getting into their stride and the innings lost a bit of momentum. This was soon put right however by some top class batting from Sam Dennis and Ryan Sammons. Jason Toogood and Tom Kershaw chipped in at the end to help Ryan Sammons complete a a splendid mature innings of 41 not out which guided Park to a total of 177-7. Copford gave park 45 extras.
Copford made a good start in their reply but once opener Ward was run out Copford struggled against some top class Park bowling which was well supported in the field. Captain Phil Goldstone was the pick of the bowlers taking 3 wickets for just 18 runs off his 8 overs. Jason Toogood also picked up two wickets including a top class caight and bowled. Bray and Sammons both bowled 5 overs for just 12 runs each and debutant Tom Kershaw came on to wrap up the Copford innings by scattering the stumps of the last Copford batsman.
All in all it was an excellent Park performance full of skill and commitment. Well done boys!!!
