Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Sunday 3rd X1 v West London Deaf on Sun 12 May 2002 at 2pm
Match was Tied
Match report
The Sunday Thirds took the field with 6 Colts 5 of whom had already played a game in the morning!!
West London Deaf batted first and started steadily against some accurate bowling from John Roberts and Jason Toogood. Tommy Kershaw took the first wicket and then fairly good progress was made against the middle order with Toogood taking his first senior wicket for Park and the D'cruz's combining for a stumping. Roger "Rogie" Boothby was then brought on to bowl his cheeky little off-cutters and then proceeded to demolish the rest of the batting. Well done Roger !!! Special mention for Gary Coombe who bowled well for the reward of just one wicket and to the boys in general for sticking at it when they were all quite tired.
The Park reply started well with Chris Swainland and Andy D'cruz putting on 58 for the first wicket. When Swainland was out for a sparkling quick-fire 36 Park lost a bit of momentum. Andy D'cruz batted with great concentration for well over two hours and only just failed in getting his first senior 50 and almost carried his bat through the whole innings. Fine contributions from Tommy Kershaw and Steve McCormack helped Park get close and Jason Toogood and Rogie Boothby very nearly got us there at the end. A great game of cricket with some fine performances.. Well done boys.
