ENFIELD v Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club National Cup 1st XI on Sun 14 Apr 2013 at 1:00PM
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Lost 9 wickets
Match report
Park arrived at Enfield with a far different side to the one that had been
picked at the start of the week. After a short delay due to wet ground
conditions around the bowlers run up play began with a reduced 40 over game.
Credit must be given to all for getting the game on and underway when more often than not it would've been cancelled.
Enfield won the toss and put Park in on a wet one.
Park began watchfully before wickets started to tumble. Hewitt dug in with a
watchful 30 from 98 deliveries before being 1 of 2 park players stumped down the leg-side. Park eventually stumbled to 114 ao in the 39th over. We felt this was
probably 40-50 runs light of a par score.
Credit must be given to Enfield's bowlers who bowled with great skill and
accuracy. A combination of swing, seam and variable bounce on a wet wicket was a perfect example of how to bowl on early season wickets. Blair being the pick
with 5/21.
Park opened up in the field with Filmalter and the spin on Wall. Accurate
opening spells ensured Enfield progressed to 24/0 after 10. After hours of the
sun and wind beating down the wicket had dried considerable and was more
conducive to stroke play . Hewitt and Mckie bowled with skill and application
without luck as Park continued to squeeze, Enfield eventually getting home in
33overs. Plumb finishing with 51no and Wall grabbing the only wicket to fall.
Positives can be taken from this game. Our bowlers gathered some important overs under their belts and we fielded with great commitment and spirit.
Good luck to Enfield who now have the prospect of a 1st round tie versus
Wanstead to look forward to.
