SOUTHEND ON SEA & EMT v Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI on Sat 27 Jul 2013 at 1:00PM
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won By 11 runs
Match report
Gidea Park travelled to Southend for this 3rd encounter between the sides this
season. On a hot day, dry wicket and quick outfield Southend won the toss and
elected to field.
Park got off to a solid start with Maynard and Francis both hitting early
boundary's. Soon Robbins made the breakthrough and wickets started to tumble. At
the halfway drinks Park were 64-5 soon to be reduced to 80-7. Skipper Collier
(41no) and Mike Pegram went about rebuilding the innings putting on 65 for the
8th wicket before the later was out for a well made 32. Park eventually
scrambled through to 164-9 from their 52ovs.
Southend started their reply positively with Robbins punishing anything loose.
Hewitt eventually getting the breakthrough with 2 quick wickets. Park looked
down and out at the start of the last hour with Southend needing 31 to win with
6 wickets in hand. In an extraordinary turn of events Park run through the
remaining Southend middle and lower order bowling out Southend with 11 overs to
spare and more important 11 runs to claim the full 25 points. Great win!!
Sarvesh with his maiden 5-wicket haul and Hewitt with 4.
