Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI v Southend on Sea on Sat 04 May 2013 at 1:00PM
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won By 6 wickets
Match report
Gidea Park played host to Southend on Sea in this 2nd round league cup tie. The
ground and wicket looking a picture and played likewise throughout.
Park took to the field on a far flatter track than previous weeks and found that hard work and discipline is required to remove in form players. Hewitt bowled with pace and control without luck and khan and Thakkar kept things tight with decent spells. Hewitt eventually made a breakthrough in his 2nd spell removing the dangerous Robbins for 55. A short rain break meant park returned to the field with a damp ball not helping spinners wall and Mckie. A late onslaught by S-O-S batsmen see the ball disappear to all parts and a challenging score of 230-3 posted. Mckie, Hewitt and Khan the wicket takers.
Parks response started positively with overseas Thakkar peppering the boundary.
Thakkar and Hewitt putting on 50-odd in an opening partnership in quick time
combining stroke play and superb running between the wickets. Thakkar shortly
retired injured but Tarr and Collard continued the good work keeping park up
with the required rate. Thakkar returned on the departure of Collard and quickly added to his earlier total bringing up his maiden club 50 before holing out. Tarr 65no and Desai 34no guided park home with 8 balls to spare. 231-4.
A really encouraging run chase and one which hopefully brings confidence ahead
of the league campaign next week where we lock horns with Southend again.
Park bowler Khan looks to be sidelined for a few weeks with a shoulder injury.
