Hornchurch v Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Under 15's on Wed 28 May 2003 at 5.30pm
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won 45 runs
Match report
GPR were put in to bat by Hornchurch in this Peters Cup under 15 competition and had a terrible start when Andy D'cruz played on with the score on 1. Craig Bray and Peter Collier then went about rebuilding the innings with some careful batting until Craig was run-out. Peter who was making his debut for the club then showed realy courage and some considerable skill to put together a fine 32 undefeated runs. Billy Payne looked comfortable before missing a straight one but has shown already this season what he is capapble of if he can get a start. Billys dismissal brought skipper Ryan Sammons to the crease who immediatly set about the Hornchurch bowling getting off the mark with 3 consecutive fours. Ryan continiued to bludgeon the bowling to remain undeafeated on 59 and being cheifly responsible for an excellent 128 of 20 overs total. This form a position of just 9 runs scored from 6 overs. A real captains innings... well done Ryan.
After some poor performances in the field this year GPR were "asked" to show some class in the field and to be fair the boys finished the match in style and never allowed the batsman to dominate. Jason Toogood was his usual economical self taking 1 wicket for just 10 runs. Adam Locke stuggled a bit but still managed to bowl the Hornchurch opener. Andy D'cruz made up for his disapointment with the bat by taking 2-11 including bowling one chap around his legs(every legspinner loves that!!!). Tom Kershaw also bowled well aand some of his fielding off his own bowling was superb. Tom also had a run-out to his name with a superb spear-like throw from gully to scatter the stumps at the bowlers end. Ryan Sammons bowled well also to get 1-11 of his 4 overs. Mention should also be given to Hornchurch batsman O'Sullivan who was powerful and composed and finished undefeated on 57.
All in all a good performance boys and a good recovery from the mauling we took at Wanstead. Keep it up now!!!
