Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Sunday 3rd X1 v Hornchurch on Sun 22 Jun 2003 at 2pm
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won 49 runs
Match report
Park batted first in this the start of their defence of the Jeff Rodrigues U15/O40 competition. Park started well with Openers Bob Coombe and Andy D'cruz both hitting half centuries with both players hitting some smashing shots with Bob Coombe particlary dangerous cutting square of the wicket and Andy D'cruz driving down the ground. Andy who hit 49no to guide the U15s to victory earlier in the day against South Woodford made it 100 in a day before being bowled for 51. After the fine start the openers made GPR were looking for a big total but were held back by some good Hornchurch bowling. Skipper Ron Montogomery accelerated things with a quickfire 39 and there were also good contibutions from Birthday Boy Matt Tarr who made 1 more run than his age(16) and veteran Dave Osbourne who pushed it around nicely to remain 16 no as the innings closed.
Hornchurch's reply started well until Andy Jenner made the breakthrough with a smart run out while following through. Andy Jenners opening partner Adam Locke also bowled well beating the bat regulary without too much luck. All the Park bowlers worked hard in humid conditions with the old boys showing the way and the youngsters toiling hard while probably giving away too many extras.
A good match played in a friendly spirit and a nice start to our attempt to retain the trophy. Well done Chaps
