Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Sunday 3rd X1 v Chigwell on Sun 07 Sep 2003 at 1pm
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won 7 Wickets
Match report
Chigwell batted first and got off to a fair startbefire Danny Coombe bowled the Chigwell opener for 33. There was good consistant batting all through the Chogwell innings and Park did well to stick to the task with Veteran Roger Boothby bowling particulary miserely while picking up two wickets. Peter Collier had to pitch in with some offspin when Gary Coombe got injured trying to take a catch off his own bowling and Peter did well to pick up his first wicket in senior cricket for GPR. Andrew D'cruz also picked up two wickets with his legspin. Chigwell declared on 239-7 after 43 overs.
Park started with Bob Coombe and Andy D'cruz who have shared some big stands over this season and they put on 105 for the first wicket against some pretty combatative bowling. Andy was eventually out for a patient 33 while Bob slowly picked up the pace with the bowling. Adam Locke ws given a chance to at up the order and put on another century partnerhip with Bob Coombe. Adam was careful at first but also picked up the pace as his innigs went on before being bowled for 37. Bob Coombe was eventaully out for 143 with just 6 runs needed for victory. It was a great knock for Bob who never really gave a chance and he deserved to take the team to victory. It was left to youngsters Tom Kershaw and Matt Tarr to ty and see Park over the finishing line. The boys looked nervous until Matt hit a magnificent six to end the game. An excellent Sunday fixture.
As the season ends I must say a special thanks to all the senior players at the club who have helped with the Sunday 3's. We have been able to provide some good opportunites for the lads who I must also thank for thier application and skill. Many of them have come a long way during the summer of 2003
