Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won Club XI won by 7 wickets

Match report Park's Saturday season finished with club Chairman Andy Jenner's XI, including former players, versus a Club XI on a lovely Autumn afternoon at Gallows Corner, whilst to complete the scene on the 3rd XI ground the Under 9s and Under 11s played out a Kwik Kriket festival and during the evening the Junior Section Awards were made (see seperate report).The Club XI/Chairman's XI format was a 40 over a side match, batsmen retire at 35 but can recycle, bowlers 7 overs maximum, and last man standing for wickets. The Chairman's XI was invited to bat and lost three early wickets before Ian Crispin and Raja Tariq added 70 in quick time. Both retired on 35 and came back later in the innings as a variety of slow bowling accounted for the middle order. Crispin hit 9 fours in 45 before being undone by one that kept low, whilst Tariq hit 3 sixes and 5 fours in 66, including one massive blow of 90 metres! A score of 177 was below par for the conditions however as all the Club XI bowlers nipped in with wickets, the skipper Chris Webber taking a crafty 2 for 11 at the death. After an excellent tea and reminiscenses Rudi Filmalter started the club's reply with a terrific array of clean shots with 7 fours and an early retirement on 37. Mughir Quereshi (38) and Callum Poultney (36) both played well and retired but not after struggling against the wiles of Kevin Crossley who rolled back the years with an excellent spell of left arm spin (but no luck!). Russell Collard then played some classy shots for a quick fire 36 before a late couple of strikes made the score more respectable as the Club XI won in the 32nd over. It was good to see a number of former players plus vice presidents and friends of the club at the game and as always there was a very good spirit around the ground and afterwards in the bar. All in all a splendid day and thanks to Chris Webber for organising and to everyone who took part.
