Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Sunday 2nd X1 v Hornchurch on Sun 15 Jun 2003 at 2pm
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won 6 wickets
Match report
On a very hot day Park lost the toss, and unsurprisingly, on what looked like a brilliant batting wicket, Hornchurch decided to bat first. The game was a 40 over contest, with both sides only having 10 men. Park got off to a good start, with Thomas taking a catch off the first ball of Roberts spell. Thomas in his return to bowling action, after 3 years, bowled a wicket maiden in his 1st over. However the other Hornchurch opener, Mason began to crash the ball around, taking a particular liking to Croft's off-spin, to race to an impressive century. Mason eventually departed caught for 144, off the bowling of Wallace. Goldstone was the pick of thje Park bowlers, unlucky to claim just 2-44. Bowling the last over Goldstone was unfortunate enough to see 3 catches dropped from his last 3 balls, Thomas kicking the last over the line for 4!!!!
In reply Park got off to a fantastic start, with openers Croft and Collier putting on 129 for the 1st wicket in 18 overs, with both batsmen playing some fine strokes. However Croft then departed, caught and bowled for a classy 60, his maiden half-century for the club. Collier followed next ball again caught and bowled, for, by his standards, a somewhat disappointing 56. Evans came in and steered the side to victory with a patient 40 not out. Useful contributions from McCormack 18, Goldstone 20 and skipper Webber who bashed 20 not out to seal the victory.
A good game played in a friendly spirit, the Sunday 2's have now won 5 on the trot.
