Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI v Loughton on Sat 31 Aug 2002 at 11am
Match was Drawn
Match report
Park fought to a draw in a hard fought match. Asked to bat first Loughton were soon in trouble with Montgomery and Dreyer picking the first 4 wickets for only 38.Dreyers impressive spell halted by a back spasm. Collard and Sweenet tried to continue the hard work by the others but lusty hitting from Ali and Kazmi removed them from the attack and Park looked to Mel Hussain and Andy Churchill for some calmness. With littile help from the wicket unlike last week , Andy and Mel bowled superbly. At lunch Loughton were 140-4 with 29 overs to go but after luch parks hard work in the field and with tight bowling frustrating the batsmen Churchill broke through having Kazmi stumped by the ever impressive Hyam off Churchill.Hussain then struck to have Ali LBW and Park theen made steady progress through the rest of the order removing the last 4 wickets for 40 runs.
213 was a score we hope to chase but some ill disciplined batting left Park up aginst the rate and reeling at 72 for 4. Andy continued his good form with a dogged 46 taking on the resposibilty of getting Park home, but he fell and it was left up to Moontgomery and Dreyer to blast park up to the minimum of 9 points required from the game in the event that Wanstead won and we drew. Monty made a fine 39 and Dreyer 21 before both fell at 168. Whatling went for 0 and it was left to Sweeney no.10 and Adams no.11 to secure the needed runs and bat out the remaing five overs. The runs came from 4 byes and the pair of them saw Park home in the gloom which was lifted as news of Wansteads defeat filtered throw.
A hard fight with plenty of corage which is needed in these dizzy times. WEll Done
