Match report After numerous postponements due to the foul spring weather, this National Cup fixture was finally played out on a beautiful summer evening and produced an exciting, hard fought, if low scoring match.
Put in to bat, Park collapsed alarmingly to 27-7 as they struggled to cope with a good opening spell by the visitors' pace bowlers. Respectability was restored by a spirited 8th wicket stand between the left handed Anurag Sharma (18 not out) and the right handed David Brett (14 not out). Both players displayed great maturity and determination to give Park's attack something to bowl at.
Buoyed by his success with the bat, Brett's fine spell with the ball proceeded to dismiss both Havering's dangerous openers in the fourth over. This triggered a dramatic collapse of the visitors as they declined from 23-0 to 44-7.
An excellent pick up and throw from Joe Thompson claimed a third scalp for Park, and Adam McKie continued his good bowling form by bowling Griffiths. The fight-back was really on when Anurag Sharma was rewarded with a wicket for a wonderfully tight spell of spin bowling, Brett rounded off an excellent all round performance by claiming his third wicket, and Simon Trowse had Walters well caught by Cameron Baxter in the covers.
Park, though, were a few runs short of a par score in these conditions and a partnership of 17 almost took Havering home before a smart piece of work by stand-in wicket keeper, Jones gave Campbell a wicket and Atte-Bower a fright.
The visitors scored the winning runs in the 18th over but knew they had been given a real fight to claim their place in the next round of this competition.
