Match report
Sweeney almost does it.
Having lost the toss yet again Park had to bat first. A solid start from Davis and Redwood saw them put on 82 for the first wicket before Davis was out for 45 in the 30 over. Redwood and Churchill upt the tempo abit and added 65 for the second wicket with Redwod completeing his maiden half century. Churchill was out for 39 a fine caught and bowled by Batch in a steady spell.When Redwood was finally out all the pressure that Saffron Walden had exerted before lunch started to show. With the loss od Redwood and then Hussain with the score on 175 an unbelieveable 5 run outs occurred and the run rate was well and truly halted. Parks last 6 wickets collapsing for 51 runs and with 2 lusty blows from Montgomery at the end Park closed all ouy for 226.
In reply Park soon had Saffron reeling at 10 - 2 .
Sparrow and MacInlay started to turn things round for Walden before the latter retired hurt. Earl and Sparrow added 130 for the next wicket before Sparrow was finally out to thr first ball of Luke Sweeneys spell. Sweeney struck again immediately removing Holland caught by Adams and then Gladwin stumped by Redwood. Walden were struggling at 161-6 but Earl remain steadfast and as they edged closer to the total Sweeney struck to remove the main man Earl caught in the deep by Churchill for 92.Macinlay returned only to be run out 28. Collard then ran out Ford and Walden were now 216 -8. Sweeney then had Sparrow caught in the deep by Collard and Park needed the last wicket in fading light with Dreyer bowling, but Wright held firm and a draw ensued.
