Billericay v Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 3rd XI on Sat 02 Aug 2003 at 1.30pm
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won 8 Wickets
Match report
Hot day, flat wicket, even flatter outfield, lost the toss and they batted - marvellous. Keith Wright's opinion of the wicket was that it might 'do a bit later' - Oh really! Fancied a bat did we??? As with previous weeks Billericay got a decent start against Paul Winmill and Jason Toogood and despite a bit of playing and missing, didn't seem in too much trouble. However as we have constantly seen 1 wicket brings 2 and 2 brings a lot. When Punit nailed their opener bang in front (for the 2nd time) and clean bowled their No.3 2 balls later things changed. Things took a further turn for the worse for Billericay when Paul cleaned out their other opener with the first ball of the next over so from 41-0 things were turned on their head at 41-3. This was not one of our best bowling performances but if the opposition insist on smacking full tosses into the fielders hands then who is going to complain! Dave Cobill was the main beneficiary ending up with 3-23 off 11 overs. A run out and 2 wickets at the end for Paul left Billericay all out at 4.15 for 134.
In reply the fast outfield (mainly through the covers) and the fact that the ball kept being put delightfully in the slot for our batsmen meant that 22.2 overs later victory was completed for the loss of 2 wickets with Ron Montgomery completing a rapid 52 not out. Jerry Trayler (33), Keith Wright (21) and Danny Cox (13 not out) being the other contributors.
One more win will see us promoted and 2 wins should see us win the league. Plan A for the next 2 weeks and then we can do what we like for the last 3 games. Roll on Chingford.
