Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won 6 wickets
Match report
Picture the scene. The coin goes up, yours truly calls tails and it comes down a head, oh xxxx!!. Having looked at, touched and walked on the wicket the words "we will bat" were music to my ears!! To be honest, not a lot happened for the first 17 overs apart from the Chingford openers uncompromisingly amassing 52 runs without loss. The 2 Paul's - Winmill and Windebank did very little wrong bowling a good line and length, waiting for something to happen. Then the tactical masterstroke! Switching ends for Paul Winmill to now up the hill and bringing on Andy Jenner down the hill proved that the area where the ball pitches is more important than the angle of the ground you run over to deliver it!! The next 21 overs saw Chingford lose all 10 wickets for 32 runs with Andy Jenner returning the staggering figures of 12.4-8-11-8. Credit to Paul who after coming back from injury produced figures of 19-6-39-2. When the report sheet is sent in we have to comment on the bounce of the wicket - regular, low, uneven or dangerous. With the 'keeper standing up a full length ball pops over the batsmen and 'keepers head and goes for byes. What category then does that wicket fit in!! Credit to our fielders also as we held everything - 8 catches.
Chasing any total on that wicket was not going to be easy so thankfully contributions from Jerry Trayler (32) caught off the glove at slip via the 'keepers gloves, James Evans (15), bowled off his elbow, Danny Cox (8), caught behind off one that stopped got us home after 27 overs on a wicket where eventually any batsmen will get one with his "name on it".
Credit has to go to Jungle for achieving personal best bowling figures for the second time in 2 weeks but I would like to thank the efforts of all the fielders especially Matt Hiscock, Paul Windebank and Andy D'Cruz and to all for creating a great focussed attitude in poor conditions.
Still 29 points ahead as Saffron Walden and Ardleigh Green both won. Roll on Hadleigh.
