Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 3rd XI v Billericay on Sat 14 Jun 2003 at 1.30pm
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won 6 wickets
Match report
Once again on a very flat home track, winning the toss proved to be the key to the outcome of the game. Billericay started steadily and did'nt look to be in any trouble against the new ball scoring 46 from the first 12 overs without loss. The next 10 overs bowled by Dave Cobill and Andy Jenner produced a miserly 22 runs and these facts were to prove vital as we began to stifle the batsmen, bowl our overs quickly and prevent a reasonable score of 220 plus from being acheived. From 68-0 Billericay slumped to 71-3 were well and truly behind the clock and unable to increase the run rate in the face of some immaculate line and length bowling from Cobblers (21-2-2-70) and Jungle (19-4-4-65). With the help of a couple of run outs we restricted Billericay to a target of 175 plus which they acheived with some late slogging. However we would of settled for 183-8 off 52 overs at the start.
With an hour and 40 minutes plus 20 overs we could afford to pace the innings but did'nt bargain for losing both openers (Keith Wright 2 and Phil Goldstone 12) for 34. This brought Jimmy Patient and Danny Cox together and they set about rebuilding the innings to the extent that when Jim was out for 62, 56 runs were required from the last 20 overs. Due to the captains inability to get the ball off the square (Oh for a net!!) We acheived our target with 4 plus overs to spare with Danny not out 72. Credit to Billericay who did bowl well and made things as difficult as they could.
Thanks to Jim for playing (yes his fingers are still a mess) at the last minute and his contribution along with those from Cobblers, Jungle, Danny and the fielders. Still 29 points ahead roll on Chingford. By the way - bowling changes - If it aint busted it dont need fixing!!
