Harlow v Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 3rd XI on Sat 07 Jun 2003 at 1.30pm
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won 120 runs
Match report
Losing the toss again and being asked to bat on what looked like a very ordinary track was not what we wanted but from what we had heard, not unexpected. With the loss of 2 early wickets (Goldstone for 6 and Trayler for 1) and the score on 36-2 after 10 overs things did not look good especially as the wicket seemed to get worse with every ball!! However a 76 run 3rd wicket stand between Matt Burch (80) and Danny Cox (34) proved vital and along with valuable contributions from Andy Jenner (19) and Matt Hiscock (12) enabled us to acheive a very respectable 179-9 after 52 overs. Great credit to Matt Burch who concentrated well and smacked the bad ball to the boundary and Danny who stuck at it in very difficult conditions.
Having seen how the wicket played with their bowlers we were fairly confident that if we bowled well Harlow would'nt get anywhere near our total - and so it proved. Despite losing Paul Winmill after 2 overs to injury Harlow were soon in trouble with Andy Jenner dismissing both openers (great short leg catch by Matt Burch). At 32-2 things were evenly balanced but when Keir Smith dismissed their No 3 and with a successful LBW shout against their No 4 the game was then ours. Their was no way that Harlow were going to hold out on that wicket against accurate, on the spot bowling and Andy Jenner's figures of 15 - 8 - 8 - 24 say it all. A stumping off Dave Cobill for the final wicket gave us a deserved, comprehensive 120 run victory. Massive credit to Jungle for that performance because strangely enough the wicket did less for our bowlers than it did for theirs - bizzarre. This win puts us 29 points ahead at the top and credit goes to all the players who contributed so much in this game in difficult conditions. Bring on Billericay!!
