Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 5th XI v BASILDON AND PITSEA 4TH on Sat 23 Jun 2012 at 1PM
Match was Drawn
Match report
Both sides played with 10 men in this well contested match in which the Basildon 4ths last pair negotiated the last three overs to clain a draw having at one time been in an excellent position to win needing 90 off 20 overs with only one wicket down. Park won the toss and batted first on a wet, slow pitch and immediatley lost Ian Greenwood to a wonderful delivery from Ashraf who continued to pose questions along with fellow seamer Farrington. Chris Lamb played confidently but was bowled by a good one and Kamal and Anwar were both undone by deliveries that stopped on them. 56 for 4 then a stand of 35 put the innings back on track after a 15 minute rain break with James Perera (19) and Salim Patel (15), before Raja Tariq proceeded to hit the change bowling in a breezy 48 (5 fours)which saw Park post a competitive 164 at tea. The pitch had dried and slowed so that the Park attack kept the scoring in check but the Basildon reply was steady with no real alarms putting on 55 for the first wicket. Ian Greenwood made the break (Breeze 19 well held by Harry Thompson) but Ashraf and Hasan both played confidently so that the last 20 overs arrived with the score 75 for 1, 90 needed and 8 wickets in hand. Man of the match Raja Tariq then altered the game with his pacy seamers as Ashraf was bowled for a well made 41 and Hasan caught and bowled for 27. Although he scoring had slowed it was still 4 an over needed but Basildon shut up shop. Tariq took three more wickets and Ian Greenwood 2 wickets (one to a simply outstanding pice of fielding from chris Lamb) as this stone wall policy back fired and in an exciting finale Park just fialed to take the final wicket after a great fight back. Tatriq finished with 9 overs 5 for 9 to go with his first innings runs; Greenwood 3 for 27. Despite the weather this was a well played match and in good spirits, a feature of all games Park have played this season.
