OLD BRENTWOODS 3RD v Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 5th XI on Sat 16 Jun 2012 at 1PM
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won 57 runs
Match report
Fortunately there were no problems with the weather playing on the astro at Old Brentwwods, and the home team won the toss and asked Park to bat first in this 40 overs a side match. Ian Greenwood (41) continued his good form and was well supported by James Perera (13)in an opening stand and then by Chris Lamb (34) who carried on from the previous week's excellent knock. The huge boundaries, slow outfield and strong wind meant a lot of running rather than boundaries but also some problems for the bowlers, including one incredible 14 ball over of wides and no balls! The middle order continued to accumulate runs without fuss, Arun Kullar anchoring with 28 not out and a breezy 28 from George Bryant, and at the end of their allotted overs Park had compiled a very healthy 197 for 6. Pick of the bowlers was colt Toby Scott with 3 for 30. The Old Brentwoods reply never got going as colt Harry Thompson and veteran Andy Jenner bowled accurately and the run rate required rose. It took a double change of bowling to make the breakthrough as Ian Greenwood had opener Burgess well held by Thompson for 38 and Zohaib Anwar bowled Keenan for 5. Thereafter all the bowlers contributed consistently, with Greenwood finishing with the best figures of 3 for 16 off 8 overs and single wickets for Thompson, Anwar, Alaracu and Kullar. The home batting saw some rustic blows in the middle order but they were never in the hunt and the innings closed on 140 for 7, Park running out winners by 57 runs. Another match played in good spirit, and another good tea too!
