Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 5th XI v BENFLEET 4TH on Sat 09 Jun 2012 at 1PM
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won 114 runs
Match report
After all the rain in the week it was great that we were able to play a full game at Chigwell School against Benfleet 4ths. Park won by 114 runs but the match was a personal triumph for 20 year old Chris Lamb who scored a remarkable 152 not out with 2 sixes and 25 fours! Coming in after the loss of an early wicket and with the ball seaming around in the first hour, he found his feet as Ian Greenwood played very well at the other end in the face of some good opening bowling, especially from Hodgson who finished the afternoon the pick of the Benfleet attack. Ian departed for 25 to make it 39 for 2, but the adhesive Salim Patel joined Chris and together they put on 133 for the third wicket, Salim scoring 26 of these runs. Chris picked up the tempo and was severe on all the bowlers when they erred in line and length and he cruised to his first 100 for the club and very quickly reached 150, a real milestone and one that allowed Park to declare early on 235 for 3. Left with what would have been a minimum of 50 overs to bat Benfleet were soon pegged back and Andy Jenner made the breakthrough before Raja Tariq ended a stubborn second wicket stand. Reverting to spin with the pitch drying out all the bowlers took wickets as the batting struggled, and Arun Kullar picked up two more and Ian Greenwood completed a fine gane with three victims, before Harry Thompson returned to claim a caught and bowled with his first ball to wrap up the innings. A final score of 121 all out reflected the difference between the teams but also the value of Chris' innings. Well played everyone and well played Chris!
