Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 5th XI v HORNCHURCH 6TH on Sat 26 May 2012 at 1PM
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won 124 runs
Match report
On a beautiful day and in excellent conditions both sides were short of full strength and played out a well fought match in good spirits. Park had a fast start through Ian Greenwood and had 48 on the board when James Perera departed for 6, A big stand between veteran Greenwood (11 fours and 1 six in 81) and 16 year old George Bryant (9 fours in 74) kept up the run rate against perservering bowlers and put Park in the position for an early declaration, all the order chipping in with Chris Webber's 29 the next best. For Hornchurch the pick of the bowlers was young Pope with 3 for 37 off 5 overs. In reply hornchurch defended stoutly in the face of good seam bowling from colt Harry thompson and veteran Andy Jenner. Very few opportunities existed for Park to take wickets but Jenner made the break and Ian Greenwood had immediate success before a stubborn stand between Don Miller and J Quereshi took the score to 66 for 2 and the limited bowling options open to Park were further restricted whne Sanjay Panwar badly sprained his ankle. Enter Chris Webber whose occasional bowling brough the break through and 66 for 2 became 75 for 5 as Greenwood took two in two, before a further stand by Lance Malkin and O Mahmood (who hit some great shots to finish 39 not out). The returning Jenner accounted for the tail and Park ran out winners by 125 runs. Greenwood took 3 for 42 and Jenner 4 for 29. A well played and enjoyable match played in the right spirit!
