Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI v OLD SOUTHENDIANS AND SOUTHCHURCH on Sat 01 Sep 2012 at 12PM
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Lost 21 Runs
Match report
Gidea Park fielded a young side on what was the last home game of the 2012 season against Old Southendians. 3 players making debuts, those being Rogers, Vyas and Pegram.
Having lost the toss park were sent out to field on what looked a flat wicket and quick outfield. Hewitt and Filmalter produced fine opening spells quickly reducing Old Southendians to 10-3. The batting side fought back well with Hendrickse (69) and Lucas (99*) seeing off the new ball and building a vital partnership. Decent spells from Collard and the 2 debutant Vyas and Pegram kept the runs in check. It was some late hitting from the Old Southendians batsmen which helped post 221-8. Special mention must go to 16-year old Sam Hewitt who bowled superbly returning his maiden five wicket hall (5-40 from 10ov).
Park felt confident chasing that target but Collier fell early for just 2. Tarr (36) and Hewitt went about rebuilding the innings until the later was runout for 27. Collard (41) played a classy knock until also being run out. The game was effectively changed with 2 Lbw decisions and it was left to the lower order to try and scramble Park home. Youngsters Mckie, Rogers and Vyas all produced fine knocks but with the rate climbing Park couldn't quite get home. 200-ao means Park need 5 points from the last game to ensure safety!
