Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI v Chelmsford on Sat 05 Jul 2003 at 1.30pm
Match was Drawn
Match report
Stand-in skipper James Patient lost the toss & Park were asked to field first. Park knew it wasn't going to be their day when in the first over Paul Windebank watched the first ball of the game just go over the outstretched hands of Ian Adams, then several balls later Adams spilled a straight forward chance at gully. It summed up Park's day as they missed seven chances in all. This allowed Chelmsford to race off to a good start. It wasn't until the introduction of Ananda Krishnan that the runs started to dry up a little. He bowled well to take 4-34 while at the other end Phil Goldstone bowled one of his bettter spells of the summer to take 2-56 from 15 overs. Several run outs helped Park's cause as they finally put some pressure on the Chelmsford batsman.
When it came to Park's turn to bat the Chelmsford bowlers of Nigel Bond & Brian Poole showed what could be achieved bowling a good line & length with the old ball & defensive fields. They stifled Park's batsman, who then went on to get themselves out. James Evans for the second week running batted well to make 52 having come in at 46 for 4. Park in the end batted out time as they struggled to make an impression on the Chelmsford total.
In the end it was a case of catches win matches.
