Saffron Walden v Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI on Sat 10 May 2003 at 1.30pm
Match was Drawn
Match report
Park won the toss & decided to field first. On a good track Park bowled quite well, reducing Walden to 117 for 5 before the experienced pair of Walden skipper Simon Skingley & Malcolm Wright took them to 209 for 5 from there 52 overs. Alan Croft bolwed one of his best spells of bowling for Park taking 2 for 58 from 17 overs. Phil Goldstone bowled well without much reward until a back injury ended his spell. Jason Toogood struggled to maintain a disciplined line & length, but managed to take 2 wickets.
When Park batted they found it hard to get the ball away young Andrew D'Cruz in particular will probadly remember the game for being a chastising experience, having alot of running in the field & finding it hard to score runs. Park were always a little behind the run rate & in the end the pressure told as wickets fell at regular intervals. Walden attempted to keep the game interesting by keeping the spinners on. Matt Hiscock & Jason Toogood tried very hard to keep Park in the hunt, but once Toogood was run out & Hiscock holed out to long on & Croft was cleaned out 1st ball. Park managed to hang on for a draw.
