Hutton v Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 4th XI on Sat 27 Jul 2002 at 1.30
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won 7 runs
Match report
Park batted first and made a steady but slow start but accelerated when required with fine performances from Skipper Matt Burch (60) and Bob Coombe(39). These two guys have been in great from recently and have been instrumental in Gidea Park reaching mid-table security. Paul "Wilko-Jonty" Wilkinson and Adam Locke made fine contributions which allowed Park to get over the two hundred mark.
Adam Locke took two early wickets to put Hutton on the back foot both caught by Burch(who was oustanding in the field all afternoon) in the covers. Gary Coombe(15) bowled beautifully to take two wickets and when his fellow legspinner Andy D'cruz came into the attack to claim 4-35 Hutton were really rocking. These two young legspinners have done a great job for the Saturday 4th's this year.
Ryan Samons bowled with real pace and fire on a baking hot afternoon and really deserved more than the one wicket he got( the dangerous Vanner) and fittingly Ryan won the game for Park by beautifully running out the last Hutton batsman while following through off his own bowling.
To Hutton's credit they always had one eye on the score and in the end just failed by seven runs to win a really great game of cricket. Park's skipper Rev. Matt Burch had to leave early straight after the match to attend yet another wedding!!!
