Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Under 13's v Upminster on Sun 01 May 2011 at 09:30
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Lost by 130 runs

Match report Upminster 175-1
Gidea Park & Romford 45-3

Upminster won by 130 runs

GP&R's young and relatively inexperienced side were blown away by a powerful Upminster side at Gallows Corner on Sunday.

Despite taking a wicket in the 1st over, to a fine catch behind the stumps by George Earle off of the bowling of Joe Thompson, the Park attack looked a bit lightweight and took some punishment from Upminster’s powerful top order as they racked up a commanding total of 175-1 from their 20 overs. Park’s fielding was poor throughout with a number of catches dropped (or avoided) and some sloppy ground work.

In reply Park laboured to just 45-3 with all of the batsmen struggling to score quickly against some accurate bowling.

In such a heavy defeat it’s hard to find too many positives but it’s fair to say that the side never gave up trying and that none of the batsmen looked to be in much trouble in defence, the problem simply being that they were unable to score anything like quickly enough, with just Noor Ahmad (12) and Elliot Ross (13 not out) capable of getting the ball off of the square.

So, lots to work on in training, where the hard ball work will have to be stepped up, as at present about half of the side still appear to be scared of the ball in the field!
