CHELMSFORD v Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 4th XI on Sat 09 Sep 2006 at 12.30pm
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won won by 1 run

Match report A terrific all round effort by the whole team realised a nailbiting one run but 20 point win, which meant that Hutton had to beat Ardleigh Green if they were not to be relegated instead of Park. In the event Hutton squeezed a win and 18 points which meant relegation to division 1 by just a solitary point for Park.
Chelmsford won the toss and asked Park to bat first. Openers Les Hall and Adam McKie put on 54 for the first wicket with few alarms but the introduction of the leg spin of Harry Halsey produced the first wicket when he induced a false shot from Mckie and then promptly bowled the in-form Suki Jutla with a prodigious leg break. Les hall soon followed and the score slumped to 91 for 5 with the youthful Halsey claiming 4 of the wickets. At this point Chris Webber seized the initiative with an intelligent piece of batting as he mastermindced a series of partnerships, first with Ali ahmed, then with Andy Jenner and Haroon which took the score up to the brink of 200 and maximum batting points, whcih were achieved before last man chris Lamb was bowled in the 50th over. Webber finished unbeaten on 62 with seven 4s and two 6s, and Halsey finished with the fine figures of 6 for 64 off 17 overs; extras contributed a massive 53 to the total!. Chelmsford's over rate was really slow and they were left 90 minutes and 20 overs to reach their target. Andy Jenner struck early in the reply with a caught and bolwed and Jutla followed up by bowling the number 3 batsman. Steward and Ahktar then added 58 going for their shots. At this point Park's normally sound fielding was fallible and catches were missed, but anil Patel had the latter stumped in his first over to bring some relief. Skipper Steve Pleasant also went for his shots and produced some big hits but the feeling was that this could not last and after a quickfire stand of 58 first Steward was LBW to Patel and then Pleasant was LBW to Haroon. Game on, and Chelmsford 137 for 5 and soon 144 for 7. But the batsmen kept swinging to good effect and number 8 Pandya looked as if he might steer them home. Andy Jenner returned to have Halsom out - 167 for 8 - but Pandya found a willing partner in Davis, but just at the brink he skied Patel to be caught for 31 and that left a tantalising 5 runs to win off three overs with the last pair at the crease. With two needed Jenner had the number 11 caught off his glove at short leg by Les Hall (yes, Park kept attacking as on;ly a win would do!) to seal a 1 run win with 7 balls left in a great game of cricket. Patel finished with 4 for 54 off 11 overs and Jenner 3 for 61 off 15 overs.
