WALTHAMSTOW v Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 4th XI on Sat 02 Sep 2006 at 12.30pm
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won 7 wickets
Match report
After last week's disappointing result against Hutton it was important to get back on track against bottom club Walthamstow, and this was done very well with a 7 wicket win and all the team contributing. The conditions at Peter May Cricket Centre were bleak, with a very strong wind, an outfied that appeared not to have been cut, and a pitch that generally played low but produced surprising bounce when least expected. Park won the toss and after the first two balls of the innings produced two boundaries, the thrid delivery produced a wicket, and from this point on the ball dominated the bat. Suki Jutla bolwed with the breeze behind him and produced his best performance for the club with a toal of 7 for 39, 4 for 29 in his first spell and 3 foir 8 in his second spell, and he posed problems for all the Stow batting with his length and line. He was notably supported by the other bowlers, and also the fielders, who took the catches on offer. Apart from a period when Mahmood started to hit out dangerously and to spread the field, the batsmen were on the back foot, and Mahmood conveniently ran himself out going for an impossible second run. The innings was wrapped up in 34 overs.
Stow's bowling proved much better than their batting and both Gill and Mahmood kept a very tight line if not posing many problems. Jas chaggar and Jerry Trayler added 40 for the first wicket before both departed in close proximity to one another, driving too soon at balls which held up, and Suki Jutla fell in the same fashion shortly afterwards having hit two boundaries. However, from 59 for 3 Dave Pasola and Danny Cox proceeded with few alarms and the match was comfortably won by 7 wickets.
With Hutton also winning their match this leaves the final games of the season to decide who goes down with Walthamstow. Park are at Chelmsford and it will be an interesting last afternoon of the league season!
