Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 4th XI v BRENTWOOD on Sat 12 Aug 2006 at 1.30pm
Match was Abandoned

Match report Wretched weather dominated the match with a 40 minute rain break in the first innings and finally an abandonment with 18 overs to go just as the match was moving to a very interesting climax. The rain was so bad that not even hardened 4th XI players could really complain about coming off, but the result meant that Park did not pick up the points that their dominance had earned throughout the game and does not really settle the situation at the foot of the table.
On a rain affected pitch Park won the toss and batted, finding the pitch had a little bit in it early on as the ball seamed about in decent opening spells by the Brentwood attack of Barbone and Woods, albeit the bowlers having to cope with a fierce cross wind. Jas Chaggar and Jerry Trayler negotiated the early overs without alarm, however, and proceeded to pick up the pace with some well timed shots, adding 114 for the first wicket off 30 overs before Trayler was out for an excellent 46. Despite some tight seam bolwing by Muncaster and the spin of Neil Webb, which slowed the pace of scoring a little so that 34 came off the next 12 overs, there were no further wickets til Jas chaggar was out with the score on 148 having completed another half century full of trade mark shots and having put his side in a strong position. Suki Jutla then finished things off with a very hard hit 46 (four 4s and three 6s) in company with Sat Chaggar 37 for a declaration at 222 for 2 off 52 overs.
Brentwood had a strong batting line up but Nick Ford struck twice in his first over, initially with a loosener that was skied to mid off and then forcing the batsman to play on. From this great start there were boundaries for the batsmen when the bowlers' length faltered and two further wickets for Suki Sutla, one a well held catch at cover by Colin Jones and one a yorker to remove the dangerous Surujbally. Andy Jenner kept control and picked up a diving caught and bowled to dismiss Mahadeo to reduce Brentwood to 75 for 5 but the incoming batsmen Priddle and Moisan took full toll of some indifferent slow bowling at the other end as the bowlers found it difficult to control the ball in the strong wind. At 121 for 5 with 18 overs left a good finish was in prospect with Park pushing hard for wickets and the batting looking to dominate. But then came the rain and very quickly it was clear that no further play would be possible. This was a very good display by Park and continued the decent form the side has shown over the last four weeks.
