Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 4th XI v ARDLEIGH GREEN on Sat 15 Jul 2006 at 1.30pm
Match was Drawn

Match report Another hot day and blameless pitch at Gallows Corner, conditions ripe for batting in fast scoring conditions. Park chose to field first against old rivals Ardleigh Green as a run chase looked on, but were fielding a man short because of changes in higher XIs on the Saturday morning. This shortage did not seem to make a difference as in the first 29 overs the seamers, led from the front by skipper Andy Jenner and well supported by younsters Suki Jutla and Ravi Rajani, kept the score down to 102 for 2 with great line and length. Rajani picked up two wickets in this initial spell, bowling with good rhythm and pace and well deserved his figures. But after a drinks break the wheels came off as Kevin Brailey smashed the ball (almost literally) to all parts of the ground with ferocious hitting against the slow bowlers. Ken Moore kept him capable company and they added 186 for the third wicket in only 23 overs! all bowling went the same way and by the time the returning Rajani had both of them out to record fine figures of 4 for 44 off 9 overs, the score was above par for the conditions and the declaration came at 279. Brailey hit 114 before chancing his arm once too many and Moore a good openers knock of 103.
With the ball having been hit so often and so far the Park over rate suffered because of retrieving the ball (this does actually affect the over rate!) and they were left 90 minutes and 20 overs to score the runs. The innings got off to the worst possible start with both openers out with the score on 24. However, Punit Satsangi (returning after injury) and Suki Jutla fashioned a calm reply and added 107 in good time. the required run rate was always too high and 193 were needed off the last 20 overs, not a realistic proposition. Jutla was run out in a mix up for a promising 61 with 10 fours and Satsangi and first Durham Bhogal and then Chris Webber accelerated the run rate so that the milestone of 200 was comfortably passed. Satsangi fully deserved a 100 for an excellent innings with 16 fours but was out for 96 to an incredible diving boundary catch going for the four that would have taken him to the milestone. Fourth XI cricket does provide the contrasts of poor to amazing when it comes to fielding and this catch reinforced the point! Ravi Rajani added some good off drives for 17 not out at the death to complete a good match for him and the game finished an honours even draw. As usual withe teams it was played in excellent spirit by both teams and both were satisfied at the end result.
