ILFORD v Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI on Sat 19 Aug 2006 at 11am
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won Win by 114 runs
Match report
Park secured a vital win on Saturday with a professional display against Ilford.
With damp weather from overnight rain on Friday night, upon losing the toss, Park were asked to bat in difficult condition's. Matt Tarr and Sibby Shar opened up and set a partnership of 26 as a foundation for the rest of the innings. Although Shah departed for 10 and with rain breaks effecting Parks innings, Tarr produced a mature innings of 36 to enable Filmalter to come in at number 3 and push the pace along with what was proabably to be a match winning innings of 73. Filmalter set about dominating the bowling and sent the ball to all parts of the ground leaving Ilford shell shocked. Although Park then collapsed in the latter stages of the innings, this was through a combination of Park attempting to set a target and Essex staffer Chopra bowling well on a track becoming dryer and more difficult. Thus Park only posted 178, which although this secured maximum batting points in their reducd overs innings, it was probably 40 runs below what was at one stage achievable.
Park then took to the field and produced a dominant display of accurate bowling and managed to exert significant pressure upon the Ilford batsmen. With a drying pitch, Park bowled in the right areas and it soon became clear that 178 was a good score that Ilford would have to bat exceptionally to achieve. It was that man Filmalter though who ripped through the top order and scalped 4 victims to leave Ilford at 33 for 4. The pressure had then been created and all park bowlers backed Filmalter up by taking wickets and from 33 for 4 it became 48 for 6 and Ilford were out of the hunt. Park knew that they had to keep the tempo up and not take their foot off the gas. This they did and it was only fitting that Filmalter was brought back and took the final Ilford wicket, his 5th and secure a welcomed 25 points for Park.
