Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Under 15's v Havering-Atte-Bower on Sun 30 Jul 2006 at 9
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Lost 5 wickets
Match report
Another disappointing defeat in a game, which, for the best part, we looked in charge. A solid batting performance with several steady stands, firstly between Adam McKie(18) and Tom Stephen(16) saw 42 added for the first wicket. Then Waleed Wain, making a welcome return to join those of his age with a little less facial hair, added 29 runs of his own with Lloyd Renvoize (18) helping, avoiding the fielders but nonetheless keeping the scoreboard ticking over. Andrew Jones joined Waleed to bash 12 runs off the last two overs leaving Havering 111 to win. In truth that was possibly not enough on a field that looked like a piece of large sandpaper, where anything that beat the inner field was a certian 4. David Brett dismissed the dangerous Beechey after just 27 runs had been added in 8 overs, but it was the other opener Scott Jackson who was to prove the danger, he went on to score a fine 59 runs and just when he thought he might have run out of partners, number 7 Hatchard came in to smack a quickfire 20 to add 45 for the 6th wicket and in just 5 overs they went from 64 for 5 to 111 for victory ! Waleed Wain bowled a tight but wicketless opening spell, David Brett bowled his usual niggardly figures which were really only messed up by the lightning outfield, Simon Trowse probably deserved another over after 2 steady overs of 1 for 6, and Cameron Baxter was the pick of them with 2-12 from 3 good overs, including a good catch behind the stumps from stand-in wicket keeper Andrew Jones. But the team missed a decent slow bowler, someone who made the batsman have to play some shots rather than deflect quick balls that were off target. Havering had two such bowlers and thats how they managed to contain our batsmen from scoring what was really required on the good batting surface and dry outfield.
