Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Under 15's v Harold Wood on Sun 18 Jun 2006 at 9.30am
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Lost 7 wickets
Match report
Harold Wood's U15 side made me wonder if the '15' is a reference to height in feet and many of them only just qualified. It looked like another year 10 side against our younger year 9's. Park elected to bat and after a couple of overs it looked like we might all be home in time to see 'Sunday Morning Worship', with Wood's Danielle Arms taking three very quick wickets, all bowled, McKie, Halsey and Libby all gone with the score on 5 after 4 overs. Fortunately David 'Barnacle' Brett (14) was there to hold up one end whilst Lloyd Renvoize, having a super year with the bat, made the bowling look ordinary with a fine 55 not out. David and Lloyd (not to be confused with the chain of leisure centres) proceeded to put on 74 for the fourth wicket and guide us to the 16th over with the score on 79 for three, only then to witness a collapse of 'English' proportions as the last six wickets fell for just 12 runs ! This left Park with 98 for 9 at the close, and with the short boundaries, this target was going to be very reachable unless Park bowled tightly and took regular wickets. Off to a good start, Park took two early wickets with the help of lapsed wicket keeper Halsey bowling well and Libby looking quick. But then the Wood batsmen Winters (50) and Smith (36 no) took advantage of some lax fielding and some less than impressive bowling to steer Wood to 98 at which point Sharma got a deserved wicket. This was too little, too late and Wood got across the line with two overs to spare. Only Sharma bowled tightly with 1 for 18 off 4 and 4 of them were over throws. Nevertheless, against a side of older and stronger boys Park equipped themselves well. With another year under there belt, and, it has to be said, a little more application and concentration in the field, they will prove a good match for any one.
