Match report Park fielded a young team for this their first match in the Dukes Essex T20 group (and Hornchurch's third). The match began in light rain and whilst the ball was new and the pitch relatively dry Chris Collier gave the innings momentum with a terrific innings of 55 (eight 4s) as the visitors' bowling struggled to find rhythm or direction. Chris was well supported by Jamal Francis and John Jones to take the score to 91 off 8 overs before the second wicket fell but a great spell in the steadily worsening conditions by Mark Whitlock (4 for 17 off 4 overs) put the brakes on somewhat. James Pegram however regained the momentum with some super shots and 8 fours in 51 not out and in worsening weather. A final total of 183 was excellent but defending it would be awkward given the inexperience of the attack and the persistent rain. Danny Evans gave Hornchurch a big start with 32 off 4 overs before being bowled by Jakk Carver and Paul Murray struck the ball well but at the 8 over stage the scores were level pegging at 92. However despite a valiant effort by Jamal Francis with his spin (4 overs 1 for 32), the conditions and inexperience of the attack were winning and both Murray (53) and Chris Sains (53 not out) had no further difficulty knocking off the runs in 17.3 overs. In all the circumstances congratulations to both teams and the umpires for managing to get the game played!
