Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 5th XI v BUCKHURST HILL 4TH on Sat 28 May 2011 at 1PM
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Lost 50 runs
Match report
Let changes from availability in higher teams meant that Park had a team of bowlers and little batting for this match. Park duly bowled first on a slow pitch at Old Chigwellians and Buckhurst Hill scored quickly at first as Wijesooriya flashed at anything short and had eigth 4s from either edges or good hits in 34 before heaving at Andy Jenner and being bowled. however Jenner was very steady and colt Matt Creevy (1 for 13 from 6 overs)bowled a tight spell from the other end so that the batsmen had to work hard for their runs and when mistakes were made Park capitalised so that at the half way stage Hill were 75 for 4. Crucially number 4 Patel had been dropped off a sitter when in single figuires and he top scord with 39, which made a big difference at the end of the game. some good fielding and poor running meant Park snaffled three run outs as skipper Jenner ensured all the bowlers contributed. At the end of the innings he and Ian Greenwood wrapped up the innings, taking 4 for 24 off 14 overs and 2 for 22 off 8 overs respectively. Yet again the players who were umpires displayed a lack of knowledge of what constitutes a wide (this happens too frquently at this level!) and there were some ridiculous calls of wide penalising the Park bowlers. In reply James Perera was out early but Ian Greenwood and Connor Donnelly were both in control against some straight forward bowling and took the score to 64 before Connor (23)made his first mistake and was caught. Ian (31) was yorked by a good one 10 runs later but at 90 for 4 and 68 needed off 20 overs the position was still ok, although the lack of batting and inexperience in the line up was now exposed and duly exploited by Yousseff with his mixture of slows and Ali's medium pace. All out 108 with 8 overs of the game left, Park lost by 50 runs.
