BELHUS 4TH v Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 5th XI on Sat 21 May 2011 at 1PM
Match was Drawn
Match report
Belhus took first knock on what proved to be a low and very slow pitch that became slower and lower the length of the game. Andy Jenner struck early and thereafter on a regular basis in a fine opening spell, bcked by good catching and with debutant Shiji Jacobs producing a brisk spell at the other end.The home side were struggling at 48 for 5 but Pantelli and Plane, two young players, batted very correctly and patiently in a stand of 68, the former scoring 32 and the latter 42. Long came in at the death and clubbed 22 quickly and this was to prove the difference at the end of the game. Veteran Jenner returned the escellent figures of 19 overs 6 for 36.
The target was one that sensible batting would achieve as there ws plenty of time and not too many devils in the home attack. Ian Greenwood and James Perera put on 32 before Ian chanced his arm and was caught, and Mick clifford got an unplayable delivery that scuttled straight along the ground to make it 36 for 2, but James and Dave Pasola doubled the score with no trouble and despite the pitch being even slower and lower, Park had plenty of time for sensible batting to win the game. Both players got out when set, Graham Poultney received a yorker, and when Sanjay Panwar went after a breezy 21 the lower order was exposed and Anil Patel and Andy Jenner tried to steer a sensible course over the last hour. However the returning Long was very difficult to play with a lot of legside deliveries and others that just kept really low and in the end it was a lottery for both teams. At the end a hard fought draw was a justifiable result, the dreadfully sluggish pitch emerging the winner. another match played in excellent spirit!
