WEST ESSEX v Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 3rd XI on Sat 14 May 2011 at 1PM
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won By 1 wicket
Match report
Great win for Park following a game which ebbed and flowed.
Park won the toss and inserted West Essex on a slightly tired looking but flat deck. However once Harry Gray realised there was a 2ft deep crater on his run-up, the wicket had to be changed to one which clearly had been used on sevreral occasions already this season.
Harry Gray and James Pegram bowled steady early on, without causing too much trobule. It was clear early on that the new ball would not last long on a dry and dusty wicket- so spinning duo Minaz and Mukund were brought on alot earlier than planned.
Wickets fell regularly but the opposition skipper played well scoring all-round the wicket. However before reaching his ton he had been dropped 3 times and that is something the whole side needs to look at. Catches do win matches.
In reply - Park got off to the worse possible start as Terike Mitchell dragged on first ball. Michael Pegram and Mukund Rajan batted very well without any trouble to both pass 50.
Needing 76 off the final 20 overs with 7 wickets in hand, Park looked odds-on favourites. However wickets began to fell and soon the game was back in the balance. In fairness, by this stage the wicket was in a terrible mess and both slow bowlers were enjoying the extreme differences in bounce. Park required a further 21 when No.11 Harry Gray joined No.10 Aaron Hughes at the crease. The lads batted superbly well under intense pressure from West Essex.
Needing 3 from 3, Hughesy launchhed the ball over Mid-On to complete a much needed win for GPR - when it looked as though we had thrown the game away.
Important we kick on from here, with Hutton visiting Gallows this week.
