Fives & Heronians v Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 3rd XI on Sat 11 May 2002 at 13.30am
Match was Drawn
Match report
A typical Keith Wright innings of 92 (17 x 4's) with consumate stroke play all around the ground (Well..... through mid wicket atleast) and a typical Jerry Trayler innings (circumspect early on) but went onto hit 13 x 4's & 3 x 6's enabled the visitors to post a total of 280 for 3 off their 52 overs. The 2 openers abley supported by a Chris Collier innings of 38 not out and some agricultural stroke play by Captain Ian Gordon at the end.
With 2 hours and 20 overs to bat Fives started slowly and always looked like playing for the draw. All Parks bowlers bowled well with veteran (Wig wearer of the year !!) Dave Cobill taking 4 wickets in 2 exceptional spells. Michael Moonie tried hard and was not only too quick for the batsman at times but also 1st & 2nd slips (You know who you are............. !!) whos fingers were warmed on a couple of occasions. Andy Jenner bowled well when he got the ball in the right place (this will come with experience!!) and the innings came to a close with Fives receiving 4 more overs than Park.
All in all a good performance from Park and one to build on for the coming season.
