Match report Here I go again the first report didn’t save properly so this one will be brief:
GP&RCC won the toss and opted to bat on a track that was damp and proved to be difficult to bat on as the ball came on so slowly.
Batsmen of note during our first game were Danny Feasey (22) who played very well, as did Eddie Gavigan (33) but the batsman that I want to heap the most praise upon is Simon Trowse. Simon went into bat after we had lost 3 quick wickets and were collapsing badly, I think it was his 4th ball that Simon played off the back foot over mid-on for 4 runs, a tremendous shot he followed it with some accomplished and thoughtful batting, which the team desperately needed. Simon showed that effort and endeavour put in when practising in the nets, pays off, WELL DONE SIMON.
GP&RCC achieved a below par total of 120 all out in 24 overs and it was decided to play 10 overs of the Hockerill CC innings before tea. Eddie Gavigan was thrown the new ball with the encouragement to hit the stumps which he duly did bowling the first 3 Hockerill batsmen, at tea Hockerill were 27 for 3. It was good to see the lads compete after tea and in general they bowled and fielded well, though it should be mentioned that 40 extras were conceded in the 31 overs it took to dismiss Hockerill for 107 and win the game (we must try to control those extras). Well done lads for achieving the win, especially the following 3 individuals: Robert Jones who in the absence of Hamir Gadhvi skippered for the first time and acquitted himself well. Eddie Gavigan for a very accomplished all round performance scoring 33 and clean bowling 4 batsmen and Simon Trowse for showing the other lads how to play a defensive shot when it is appropriate and an attacking shot when the delivery warranted it. Lads please take note!!!
