Match report Gidea Park U16's put up a brave effort as they went down to a strong Buckhurst Hill side. For most of the team it was their first taste of 40 over cricket and they did extremely well, all things considered.
Buckhurst Hill were asked to bat by the Park skipper (Brett), and were two down within 5 overs with Anish John and Shafi Ekhlas with one wicket each. Tight bowling from Neal (2-28) and Kiernan (0-22) kept the pressure on Buckhurst. With the spinners on and the Buckhurst run rate slowing Park were on top of the game but Buckhurst still had their number three (Hick, 90) at the crease and was looking a danger. Excellent bowling from Ryder (2-24), Ishmael (0-19) and Patel (1-22) kept Bukhurst down to a very respectable 166-7 off their 40 overs. A highlight of the innings was a fine stumping by Brett off of the bowling of Ryder.
John and Hewitt went out to open the innings and got to 19 before the loss of John (4). Brett and Hewitt produced a good partnership with some great strokes by both players. With the score on 94, Brett finally fell for 43 to a good catch at mid-off with his 50 looming. Wain (5), Hewitt (34) and Neal (0) fell in quick succession afterwards and left Park at 105-5. Creevy (9) and Ryder (15) put up some resistance against the Buckhurst attack but as wickets continued to fall, the lads just gave themselves too much to do at the end. Ekhlas (10 not out) had a brief swing at the end with his first runs for Park.
At the end Park fell 16 runs short but have every reason to be pleased with their performance, especially on the fielding side of the game.
