Match report Second placed Wanstead played third placed Park and Wanstead won the toss and elected to bat first on a benign pitch at Royal Liberty School. Park opened with the medium pace of Mueez Quereshi (who produced another promising spell of 6 overs 1 for 15) and off spin from Ian Greenwood and an early wicket was produced but despite some good bowling thereafter the breakthrough did not come and Danny Mead and S Malik put on 60 so that at the half way point they were well placed at 78 for 1. however things change round and Nelso Lopes, in a very good spell, had Mead caught behind for 30 and Malik was LBW to Rajesh Kanojia. With the ball much more on top Wansead reached 130 for 5 but succumbed to 158 all out as Lopes (16o 3m 48r 5w) and Greenwood (16.1o 2 m 52r 3w) did the trick backed by good catching, with colt Matt Creevy putting an accurate spell in between the wickets. A total of 158 was about par and Park are used to getting very good starts from Greenwood and Ammar Zahid. however this time 15 year old debutant for the visiotrs S shirzey bowled fast and straight and immediatle produced two exceptional deliveries to send the openers packing. Wanstead bowled very well and also caught exceptionally, the catches to get Lopes and mike ryder both falling into this category, so Park slumped unexpectedly to 41 for 6 with 40 minutes and 20 overs left, a tall ask to defend. Skipper Andy Jenner dug in and with Salim Patel took the game to the last hour, but on the latter's departure and despite some stout resistance from the very youthful tail, Shirzey completed his allotted overs to bowl Park out for 69 win the game for the visitors, leaving the skipper high and dry. The initial partnership at the top of their order and out bowling Park (unusual for this to happen to Park in matches this season)were the keys. A hard fought match played in the right spirit by boh teams. Park still have an outside chance of promotion and really must win both remaining games starting at West Essex next week. Finally a quick word about the young colts who turned out for Park; all fielded well and resisted well when it mattered, an important part of their cricket education and good to have them in the team!!
