Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 3rd XI v SOUTH WOODFORD on Sat 07 Aug 2010 at 1PM
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won 8 wickets 18pts
Match report
"Dearly beloved we are gathered here today to celebrate the wedding of Elizabeth and James. Unfortuantely due to captaining the GPRCC 3rd XI James will be arriving late...."
Fortunately this case of affairs was prevented, as GPRCC wished James all the best for his big day. Changes to the side saw Ron Montgomery return, Dan Long stepped up at the last minute, Chris LAmb replacing Chris Webber behind the stumps and Dave Pasola returned from Berlin to take over as captain for the day.
The day started as usual with the question of "who has keys to the pavilion?", as I was the answer I made my way to the ground for 10am to let in the first team before going to buy some shoes for James evening reception.
Eventually as the day progressed, the toss was won and we decided to have a bowl on a damp track. Aaron bowled a good first four overs, Gurjit got the early breakthrough as the South Woodford opener snicked it behind to a greatful Chris Lamb. Aaron next three overs recieved some treatment as he forgoed line and length in search of the magic ball.
John Jones (could he be more Welsh), replaced Gurjit coming uo the hill but the South Woodford number three was making the Park bowling look mediocre as he swung from the hip. Dave Pasola diving to his left at short leg caught a flyer off the bat but spilt it as he landed. Eventually swinging so hard he hurt his back the number 3 had to retire hurt.
Drinks came with South Woodford in a strong position but soon the second opener chipped back to Love Singh for a caught and bowled and so did number four. in fact no other South Woodford batsman reached 20.
Paul Winmill bowled fantastically well finishing with 7 -43 which really gave GPR the opportunity to win the game.
Batting after a brief rain shower at tea, Ron and Saghir took the bowling apart as the search for quick runs gathered pace. Saghir Khan fell for 23 as he got a top edge through to the keeper. John Jones joined Ron and proceeded to up the run rate as the clouds from independance day gathered and threatened. Ron fell for 83 and Chris Goldsmith came in smashed a massive six whilst his dad's back was turned.
GPR finished at about half six just as the heavens opened and deposited enough rain to ensure we wouldn't have been coming back.
On to the evening do to find out what t shirt James had worn for the ceremony, Rudi was going for a black one related to a rock band, Greg thought the Sid James special one, whilst I had plumped for a blasphomous effort of some sort.
Suprised to see him looking so smart!! Surely a mettalica record for first dance...... disappointed again!
