Match report Gidea Park & Romford got their league Cup campaign off to a winning start with a convincing win over Leigh on Sea.
Some acurate bowling from the Leigh openers and a lack of patience on a slow early season wicket left Park struggling on 18-4 and facing an early exit from the cup.Park captain A Churchill made a patient 58 and along with useful contributions from B Kulasena, Ejaz Khan and Jamie Francis managed to push the final total to 201 all out.
Parks seam attack of C Greenidge, E Khan, J Francis and D Miller done all the damage to the Leigh on Sea batting order. Carl Greenidge on his debut for the club opened the bowling taking a wicket in his very first over He bowled a very economical 8 over spell finishing with 3 wickets and along Ejaz Khan dismissed the Leigh top order. There was no let up for the Leigh middle order as change bowlers Jamie Porter and Donnovan Miller continued the theme and disposed of the middle and lower order.
Leigh were eventually bowled out for 71 with Park convincing winners by 130 runs.
The next round on Saturday could provide a tougher test with a home tie against Hutton.
