Match report Cricket week at Gallows Cornor had been badly disrupted by rain, so it came as some what of a relief to get a full afternoons play. 'Park' won the toss and chose to put Hornchurch into bat on an old strip with overhead conditons that should of helped movement.
However Hornchurchs batting was determined with the firsts wkts only going down in the eighth & nineth overs for 33 & 35. This brought B. Gordon and L. Edwards to the middle for a stand of 55. Gordon with three boundries batted well for his 30 runs before he retired.Edwards was well set on 19 before he was dismissed by Colin Campbell with a stunning mid-air diving catch to his right. A feat that should have earnt him the 'Chamagne moment' of the game.(An idea for next year perhaps?) The middle of HX innings was slowed by some tight bowling by David Brett 18-1, Andy Jones 18-0 and A Mckie 15-1 all off four overs.
Honchurch however regained their momentium with the introduction of D. Selby to the wicket, top scoring with 35 'HX' were able to put on 41 runs off the last 5 overs. Bowling figures of 5-1-17-2 by Lloyd Renvoize were the best for the season. Chris Mckie's first three overs only went for six runs but when he was reintroducted to the attack at the end and decided to bowl spin instead of seam his figures ended on 4-0-19-0. Hornchurch ended their 30 overs on 146 for 6.
Park opened their innings with C Mckie & A Mckie however both were out to lose shots for seven and one repectivly. Jack Miles 13 and Connor Halsey 7 offered some resistance in the middle order but were never up with the run rate. Only Andy Jones top scoreing on 21 forced the pace.Hovever once he was bowled by J Defretas the game was lost for 'Park'. Three late run outs by the lower order only added to an air of disappointment of an oppotunity missed. Gidea Park & Romford were all out for 98 off the fifth ball of the last over.
