Match report Only four wickets fell in this match on a batsmen friendly wicket at Gallows Corner. Choosing to bat first, Park struggled to get a score going against some tight early Saffron Walden bowling, 38 coming from the first 20 overs. After James Patient was caught at cover, Jerry Trayler, playing his first 2nd XI game for over 3 years, was joined by Greg Churchill and the pair then patiently built a partnership that took the side over 200 and maximum batting points. Greg fell for 84 going for runs with a couple of overs left while Jerry remained unbeaten with an excellent 110. Rudi Filmalter helped finish the innings with a trademark huge straight six with Park able to declare on 230, 155 having come from the last 20 overs.
Starting with the old ball, Park tried to keep Walden's openers quiet with Alan Croft's off spin and Rudi's seamers. Rudi made the early breakthrough, JP taking a good catch standing up, but after a dozen overs the new ball was taken with Ryan and Jason brought on to use it. Jason managed to get a second wicket, JP taking another catch down the leg-side but thereafter Park rarely threatened to break through again. Matt Tarr bowled well in a rare five over spell but with Walden's Odedra growing in confidence as the innings progressed, the visitors reached their target with four overs to spare, Odedra unbeaten on 144.
However, maximum batting points were earned on day when other sides near the bottom didn't win so some ground was made up with six games still to play.
