Match report Having won the toss Park asked possible champions Hainault and clayhall to bat and set a total in what could have been a good game and go along way in deciding whether Clayhall would be able to win the title.
Clayhall soon lost Patel LBW to Rhett Fileke for 4 and A.Ahmed was well caught by Alan Croft at point off Leigh Davey for 28. Ravi Bopara then came in and was dropped by Park on 9, a drop they were to well and truly regrett. Fielke, Davey and Waheed Khan bowled well all innings consistantly beating the edge without any luck. With the wicket now deteriorating, the ball misbehaving at more regular intervals it was becoming increasingly difficult to bat, except for Essex professional Bopara who plays regularly and enjoys playing for his local club showed majestic batting never phased by the wicket he played exceptionally well. Imail was dismissed by Rhett Filek lbw for 27 and Shah was caught by Swainland for 21. Patel was 24 not out and the last man to partner Bopara in what became the Bopara show as he continued to slay the ball to all parts in what was becoming increasinly clear a ridiculously high total. Having passed 265 which would have been a stiff ask Clayhall inexplicably batted on and on. Clayhall finally called it a day at 305-4 off 63 overs !!!
Park needed a Bopara, and didnt have one! Park lost Hyam for 18 and Greg Churchill for 1, and when Swainland was adjudged lbw for 22 and Collard went for 6 bowled by Bopara the total looked even more ridiculous. With the wicket appalling and comfortably one of the worst to grace and ECB accredited league cricket it was a hapless task.Kliber went for 0 Fielke for 5 but Leigh Davey showed dogged determination and finished the match on 47 not out. Alan Croft had a valuable partnership with Davey, only scoring 6 but tried desparately to stop Clayhall claiming victory. Croft was out for 6 and it remained for Davey and Tom Montgomery 3 not out to see park to a draw.
