SAFFRON WALDEN v Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI on Sat 30 Jul 2005 at 11.30am
Match was Drawn
Match report
Park achieved a creditable draw with a young and inexpierenced. Again decimated by unavailabilities Park asked Walden to bat first.Rhett Fileke produced a great spell of bowling as he was pressed hard with the bulk of the work load whilst still struggling with a hamstring strain. Finally gaining 2 wickets in his alloted 21 over spell. Fine bowling all round by all those asked to bowl.Collard, Berry 1 wicket and Goldstone 2 wickets all bowled well whilst fine stand in spells from young Jack Kliber and not so young but still as effective Barry Hyam (wicket og Giles Ecclestone classically bowled by an inswinger) were all a credit to the club. The fielding never sherked as extra came from Andy D'Cruz, Richard Wall, Waheed Khan (unable to bowl due to side strain) and Chris Swainland behibnd the stumps had a fiine performance.Saffron scored well on a decent batting wicket with most batsmen getting in although Charlie KNightly shown again with a fine 89 and Mark Pettini with a well crafted 58. Saffron finally ending on 285-7.
Park got off to a good start with Barry Hyam showing he wasnt going to be detered with a big score to chase. He was finally out for a fine 49. Parks rate slowed and so did the chances of victory against a determined Saffron attack. Chris Swainland went for 12 and Chris Collier went for 36. Jack Kliber went for 6. It was left to Russ Collard 39 and Rhett Fielke 27 not out to see Park to a gutsy draw. Not a thrilling game but a classical struggle and a pleasure to play in agame where so many gave so much after the disappointment from the week before against Wanstead
